The amount of data generated by any organization is huge, and most of this data is captured, growing exponentially. Data can grow to such a size where convential data tools can no longer effeciently cope. Big Data, as it is known, requires new tools to manage and to use.
There is real benefit to an organisation in being able to harness this this data. New data tools combine integration, quality, analytics and reporting and the tools are cost effective to mine for patterns that enable business descision making.
The metadata (data about data) enables holding disparate data together and unlocking their true value by putting them in the right context. Without metadata, any data is close to being useless.
Metadata includes such attributes as structure, location, type, size, age, flow, transformation mappings and quality about data.
Organizations need an Enterprise Repository to capture all its metadata which can be accessed by all data consumers alike. Adhering to the metadata framework helps produce and consume data more effectively.

We recommend an enterprise starts by understanding what it needs to know about metadata - in other words do it manually! Then, as understanding about what is required emerges, you can consider how to use tools to automate some of the work.
Ultimately we recommend you create metadata repositories and link up data assets using the contextual knowledge available for data sets.
inpreci can categorise and capture data assets, crucial for creating an Enterprise Repository. We provide accelerators and templates for capture and creating of these assets which can easily be in the hundreds of thousands. Capturing this in the form, structure and level of detail for it to be meaningful comes with experience. We can accelerate the creation of the metadata management piece within your organization. We provide the framework and the Governance structure to manage meta data within the Enterprise.
